Learning-teaching process in Botany; teacher’s formation
and teacher’s continuing education
My mission is to
improve the Botany learning-teaching process in
Undergraduate Biology hoping that this will bring positive
reflexes to the basic education in Brazil. I am aware that
my project complex involving many variables which are
difficult to master and control. Nevertheless, I am
seriously committed to my goal and will do my best to make a
relevant contribution to progress in the stated direction.
I believe that the
interaction between the academic professionals and the
school teachers is a mechanism of paramount importance in
the improvement of science education in general.
My strategy is to approach the problem through a series
of fundamental questions:
1.
Are we, academic
professionals, in the right track to form a school teacher
that will be able to deal with a huge amount of obligations
and responsibilities related to the formation of a conscious
citizen in schools?
2. Are we giving adequate support to the school teachers
that we have already formed? Are we aware of the problems
and limitations that they are facing in their mission? Are
they aware of what we are doing at University?
At this time I have a lot of questions, but few answers.
Because of this, the research in
Botany
learning-teaching process
is a great, albeit passionate challenge to me. My
expectation is that, within a few years from now the efforts
of my research group will have some answers and new and
interesting questions about this theme.
